Mentoring Matters – Insights From The CEO

The further I get into my own career, the more conscious I am of what I want to give back.

One of the things that matters enormously to me is supporting young people as they find their way through their lives, careers and whatever journey they choose for themselves.

None of us has everything figured out at the beginning. In fact, most of us are still figuring things out much further into our careers than we probably admit.

But somewhere along the way, people give us opportunities. They share what they know. They make an introduction. They challenge our thinking. They give us confidence when ours is still developing. Sometimes they simply take us seriously before we’ve quite learnt to take ourselves seriously.

I have benefited from people like that throughout my own life and career.

And increasingly, I see it as part of my responsibility to be that person for others.

Not to tell young people what their path should look like, but to listen, encourage, challenge, open doors where I can and help them recognise the value they already bring.

Success becomes much more meaningful when you use some of what you’ve learnt along the way to help someone else build theirs.
