Keeping You Informed: New Tax Agent & Taxpayer Obligations

Part of our new responsibilities under the 2024 Tax Agent Services Code of Professional Conduct includes keeping our clients informed about key matters including:

  • Our obligations as a tax agent;
  • Your obligations as a taxpayer; and
  • What resources and processes are available to ensure your best interests are protected.

The responsibility to keep our clients informed and protected strongly aligns with our core values of being courageous custodians of our community.

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) are currently developing guidance to help registered tax practitioners understand their new responsibilities under Section 45 of the 2024 Tax Agent Services Code of Professional Conduct.

We are already well-prepared to embrace these changes thanks to our existing framework of policies and procedures. Therefore, clients likely won’t notice much difference in our services once these new standards take effect on 1 July 2025.

Changing legislation will require us to send out a series of information on this topic in the coming months. We will avoid inundating you with content wherever possible. So, we are starting with the basics and will provide updates via our ‘Keeping You Informed‘ page.

We encourage you to review the information on this page. This will ensure you understand:

  • Your tax agents’ obligations to you, the ATO and the Tax Practitioners Board
  • Your own obligations to the ATO.
