Our sponsored athletes Kaylen Bassett, Tristan Carter and Ben Ross are flying out to Europe this week to begin training ahead of the International Canoe Federation’s 2023 Canoe Slalom World Cup and World Championships.

We’re very proud that all three of our sponsees earned their spot on the Australian Team through several qualifying races earlier this year. Kaylen as part of the Senior Canoe Slalom and Senior Wildwater Teams, Tristan in the Senior Canoe Slalom Team, and Ben in the Under 23 Canoe Slalom Team.

The World Championships and World Cup races are the biggest event on the canoe slalom calendar every year.  These races are especially important in 2023, as many athletes have their sights set on the 2024 Paris Olympics and the World Cup Final will be taking place at the new Olympic stadium.

Their campaign will span several countries, many months, and include the following key races:

  • Canoe Slalom World Cup Race #1 – Augsburg, Germany: 1-4 June (Tristan & Kaylen)
  • Canoe Slalom World Cup Race #2 – Prague, Czech Republic: 8-11 June (Tristan & Kaylen)
  • Wildwater Canoeing World Cup – Mezzana, Italy: 14-17 June (Kaylen)
  • Canoe Slalom World Cup Race #3 – Ljubljana-Tacen, Slovenia: 15-18 June (Tristan)
  • Canoe Slalom Junior & U23 World Championships – Krakow, Poland: 15-20 August (Ben)
  • Wildwater Canoeing World Cup – Lipno, Czech Republic: 26-27 August (Kaylen)
  • Canoe Slalom World Cup Race #4 – La Seu D Urgell, Spain: 31 August – 3 September (Tristan & Kaylen)
  • Canoe Slalom World Championships – Lee Valley, United Kingdom: 19-24 September (Tristan & Kaylen)
  • Canoe Slalom World Cup Race #5 (Final) – Vaires-sur-Marne, France: 5-8 October (Tristan & Kaylen)
  • As well as several other ranking races, local races and training camps.

You can follow their progress on their individual Instagram pages below. We’ll be posting updates on Aintree Group social media throughout the racing season as well.

We wish Kaylen (@kaylenbassett), Tristan (@tristanjcarter) and Ben (@ben.r055) bon voyage and good luck!
